During a Study Tour to Delhi NCR region during March 20-30, 2023, 17 MA students and three faculty members of the School of International and Politics (SIRP), Mahatma Gandhi University, visited Korea related institutions in Delhi. The Korean Studies field visit aimed to introduce academic, diplomatic and cultural institutions related to Korea in New Delhi and provide an opportunity for the students of the SIRP to interact with Korean Diplomats, Officials, researchers, Korea Studies Faculties and Students based in Delhi. During the trip, the students visited the following Korean Studies institutes and organizations in New Delhi.

 

Korea Institute of International Economic Policy (KIEP)- New Delhi Office

During the visit to the KIEP India office on March 24, the students and faculty of SIRP interacted with KIEP Delhi Office Director, Dr Cho Choongjae. Dr. Cho explained the activities of KIEP and KIEP India Ofiice, Major trends in the Korean economy and India-Korea economic relations. For the students of SIRP, it was their first interaction with a Korean scholar. The students asked questions about the Korea economy and India-Korea relations.

 

Korean Cultural Centre, New Delhi and an Interaction with Korean Diplomats

The students and faculty members of the SIPR interacted with Diplomats from the Korean,  Embassy, Mr. Chanho Jeon, Second Secretary-Political and officials from Korean Cultural Centre. Mr. Jeon gave a talk on the background and contemporary dynamics of India-Korea Relations and the importance of India-Korea relations in the Indo-Pacific. He also interacted with Students on various aspects of contemporary Korea and India-Korea relations. Officials from the Korean Cultural Centre explained various activities of the KCCI, especially the Korean Language Programme Offered by the Sejong Institute. Students and faculty of SIRP toured the facilities of the KCCI and the Lantern Exhibition.

 

 

Korean Studies Division, Centre for East Asia, Jawaharlal Nehru University

On March 27 students and faculty of SIRP, visited the Korean Studies programme Centre for East Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Dr. Jitendra Uttam, Assistant Professor, Korean Studies, CEAS gave a talk on Korean Studies in India and various programmes that are being offered in Jawaharlal Nehru University. He also explained the scope and job opportunities of Studying Korean studies in India and academic programmes in South Korea. The Students also interacted with students of Korean Studies students from JNU.
