On August 12, 2025, the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Delhi, in collaboration with the Korea Centre at Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kerala, and the UniKorea Foundation, organised a Korean Unification Lecture titled “Korean Peninsula at a Crossroad: Developments in Inter-Korean Relations and the Prospects of Unification.” The event was held at Satyakam Bhawan, University of Delhi. This lecture was conducted as part of the project “Korean Unification Awareness and Korean Studies Promotion in India,” which is supported by the UniKorea Foundation.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Ma Sang Yoon, Professor of International Relations at the Catholic University of Korea, who is a leading scholar of East Asian international politics with extensive experience in U.S.–Korea relations, foreign policy, and diplomatic history. Prof. Ma Sang Yoon has served in several distinguished capacities, including President of the Korean Association of International Studies and Director-General for Strategy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. He has also been a visiting fellow at prestigious institutions such as the Brookings Institution and the Woodrow Wilson Center, bringing valuable insights and expertise to the discussion on inter-Korean relations and unification prospects.
The lecture was chaired by Prof. Ranjana Mukhopadhyaya, Head of the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Delhi. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Sanjoy Roy, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Delhi, and Prof. Choe Wongi, Professor and Head of ASEAN and India Centre, Korea National Diplomatic Academy, as distinguished guests. Dr. John Jojin from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, also attended as a guest, representing the collaborative partnership between the institutions. This lecture served as an important platform for academic discourse on the complex dynamics of the Korean Peninsula and contributed significantly to enhancing understanding of Korean affairs among Indian academics and students, while strengthening Indo-Korean academic cooperation.
