The Korea Centre at Mahatma Gandhi University organised a Korean Food and Cultural Experience Event on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Mini Conference Hall, SIRP. This unique initiative aimed to foster cultural understanding and promote the rich culinary traditions of Korea among students and faculty members of Mahatma Gandhi University. Dr. Kim Jinwoog, Scholar-in-Residence at the Korea Centre for 2025, led an insightful session on Korean cuisine and traditional dining etiquette, offering participants a better understanding of the cultural significance behind Korea’s food traditions. He also explained how Korean food reflects the nation’s history, values, and way of life. Participants engaged in an interactive Q&A session with Dr. Kim, where they discussed the influence of Korean cuisine on global food culture and its rising popularity, especially in Kerala. The programme concluded with a hands-on activity where attendees experienced an authentic Korean dish. The event concluded with participants enjoying an authentic Korean meal featuring iconic dishes such as Bibimbap (a mixed rice dish with vegetables and meat/egg), Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), Kimchi (fermented vegetables), Chapchae (stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables), and Kimbap (Korean rice rolls).
